Dear colleagues,
This past month has been marked by difficult events for all of us. We have lost two of our colleagues, and their departure leaves a huge void in our team. We would like to pay tribute to them and express our solidarity with their families and loved ones. They will remain in our thoughts, and their memory will continue to inspire us.
Despite these trying times, the last six months have been rich in activities that have allowed us to strengthen our bonds and move forward together. World Diversity Day, for example, has helped to make Lagardère a place where diversity and inclusion are not only valued but encouraged. This event, like so many others, helps to make our working environment more pleasant and supportive.
We also celebrated Environment Day, which led to us receiving a prestigious label recognising our efforts in sustainable development. In addition, the introduction of death insurance demonstrated our commitment to improving the protection and well-being of our employees. These initiatives reflect Lagardère's desire to create a fulfilling working environment and to increase everyone's commitment.
Looking ahead, we are pleased to announce that we have signed several important agreements in recent months. These include the imminent launch of our operations in Benin in December, as well as the signing of the contract in Cameroon, which is part of our strategy to achieve our goals by 2028: to increase our turnover fivefold and triple our RESOP. These achievements are the result of your ongoing commitment and hard work, and we are confident in the future we are building together.
I would like to reiterate how essential the commitment of our teams is to meeting the challenges ahead. Together, we will continue to grow, innovate and build a working environment where everyone feels valued.
Thank you for your dedication.
Sountou BOUSSO, CEO Lagardère Travel Retail Afrique de l'Ouest
World Diversity Day
During Diversity Day at Lagardère Travel Retail, our teams celebrated cultural diversity across our various sites by proudly wearing their finest traditional outfits.
The event was also an opportunity to share iconic dishes from different cultures, creating a moment of discovery and authentic exchange. The impact of such a day was considerable: it strengthened bonds between colleagues, fostered a climate of respect and inclusion, while highlighting diversity as a driver of creativity and innovation within the company.
This moment of conviviality and sharing helped to create an even more harmonious working environment, contributing to the personal and professional enrichment of everyone.
World Environment Day
As part of our CSR programme at Lagardere Travel Retail Senegal, we launched two significant initiatives to celebrate Environment Day: We organised an educational session for pupils at the AMA school. In collaboration with NCD (Nature Communauté Développement), a Senegalese association dedicated to the protection and sustainable development of the environment, we addressed the theme: THE RESTAURANT GENERATION. Our young learners also had the opportunity to take action by planting some plants in front of their school. For our second action, we planted seedlings in the backyard of the Képar Café restaurant, located at the YEBA rest area. This symbolic but powerful gesture contributes to reforestation and the maintenance of our ecosystem. Together, we can make a difference and inspire future generations to take care of our precious planet.
Label CNP RSE
Lagardère Travel Retail Senegal participated in the official opening ceremony of the Business Conference organised by Senegal's CNP (National Employers' Council) at the Roi Fahd Hotel. This prestigious event remains a key date in Senegal's economic calendar. Members of the government and institutional leaders were in attendance, underscoring its importance and national significance. During the ceremony, Lagardère Travel Retail Senegal was honoured with the CNP's Level 2 CSR Label (maturity stage).
This recognition is the result of the daily commitment of our teams in Senegal, reflecting the group's CSR vision in various activities. By setting up a CSR Committee, Lagardère Travel Retail Senegal has equipped itself to carry out various local CSR projects, including supporting YEBA women in their economic empowerment process. Well done to the teams for their daily commitment!
Cameroon, it's done!
On Wednesday, 11 September 2024, our company signed a new concession agreement for the management of duty-free shops at Douala and Yaoundé international airports.
This agreement, signed by the Director General of Airports of Cameroon (ADC), Mr. Thomas OWONA ASSOUMOU, and our CEO, Mr. Sountou BOUSSO, marks a significant step forward in our expansion strategy on the African continent.
Our ambition for 2028 is clear: to enter new countries, open new stores and strengthen our international presence. The launch of this partnership in Cameroon is an important step that allows us to remain optimistic about achieving these goals. Each new opening is a building block in our joint effort to build a prosperous and ambitious future.
This contract goes far beyond the modernisation of commercial infrastructure. It reflects our desire to transform Cameroon's airports into modern and authentic showcases for the country, where local culture blends with our international expertise. This project also involves job creation, training for Cameroonian talent and the promotion of local expertise.
But to achieve our 2028 goals, we need the commitment of each and every one of you. This success is not just the company's; it is also yours. Together, we have the power to make this ambition a reality.
Every contribution counts, and it is by joining forces that we will continue to grow, innovate, and exceed our own expectations. Your expertise, commitment, and passion are the driving forces behind our success.
This moment is a reminder that, despite the challenges, our collective ability to move forward with determination will take us far. We look forward to seeing you all contribute to this new phase of development with the same energy and passion that have always been the key to our success.
ACI Conference
During the 33rd ACI Conference, whose theme was "Flying Together: Airport Collaboration and Partnerships", the CEO shared Lagardère Travel Retail's vision on the TREND LEADING NON-AERONAUTICAL REVENUE: "We firmly believe that we are at a crossroads between incorporating dominant technologies and using them as tools for human success.
We work every day to enhance customer satisfaction, the true driver of value creation in all communities within the airport value chain. Knowing our customers allows us to develop a sense of place that captures the essence of the countries where we operate, offering travellers a piece of local culture, pride and craftsmanship.
We are proud to represent Africa, in Africa, and to contribute to the evolution of retail standards. At Lagardère Travel Retail l, there are no double standards. We offer the same operational excellence and quality wherever we operate.
Donation of school supplies
As part of our commitment to social responsibility, on 28 September 2024 our company took part in the 6th edition of the school supplies collection organised by the Association for the Protection of Children, Women and Social Action (APEFAS) in Mauritania. We donated school supplies to support children's education. The day, which focused on the theme of "gender equality in the education system", provided pens, notebooks, bags and funds to ensure a successful start to the 2024/2025 school year.
Through our participation, we contributed to achieving several key Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs):
- ODG 4: Quality education – By supporting the collection of supplies, we promoted access to inclusive, quality education for all.
- ODG 5: Gender equality – The event highlighted the importance of gender equality in the education system, raising awareness among participants about this essential cause.
- ODG 10: Reduced inequalities – By facilitating access to educational resources for children in vulnerable situations, we have helped to reduce social and economic inequalities.
A gala match was also organised to highlight the importance of equitable access to education for all. It brought together artists, influencers and partners.
Congratulations to everyone who took part in this wonderful initiative.
We reaffirm our commitment to supporting solidarity and inclusive projects.
Death insurance subscription
As part of its social policy, Lagardère Travel Retail Senegal has decided to take out death insurance for all employees. Death insurance provides financial security for your loved ones in the event of the employee's death (MAY GOD GRANT US ALL A LONG LIFE).
With death insurance, you can benefit from: a lump sum paid to the designated beneficiary or beneficiaries in the event of the employee's death. The value of the lump sum is equal to one (1) year's gross salary. This lump sum is doubled in the event of death or total and permanent disability following an accident. Your membership does not require any contribution on your part. Death cover is fully paid for by the company.
It is essential to sign the documents specifying the beneficiaries in order to validate the cover. The company also plans to introduce it in other countries in the region very soon.
"Let's take the step together" - PINK OCTOBER
This year, during Pink October, our company rallied around the theme "Together, let's take the step" by implementing two initiatives:
First, we produced a video with the involvement of many female employees, with the aim of raising awareness about the importance of breast cancer screening.
Then, on Monday 7 October 2024, we organised an online awareness session at the initiative of the Executive Management.
This event gave many participants the opportunity to discuss and ask questions about screening and prevention, thereby strengthening our collective commitment to health. We would like to thank our employees for their involvement and commitment.
Screening is a step towards life, a step towards hope, and therefore goes beyond the month of October. Don't delay, take this step for yourself and for those who love you.
Tributes
We have been deeply saddened in recent months by the passing of two beloved members of our extended family. We would like to pay tribute to the memory of Babacar and Edwige.
Their passing will leave a profound void, and their absence will be deeply felt. We can only imagine the pain their families and loved ones are experiencing in the face of such tragedies.
Let us cherish their memory and humanity, and continue to move forward together, united.
